Winter Land of Tennis
Tennis in the Park played host to a very special event on Saturday 5th January 2013, it was called Winter Land of Tennis. Players from the parks programme and The Elena Baltacha Academy of Tennis attended this special event organised by the Tennis in the Park team.
The session started with everyone including the parents going for a very enjoyable brisk walk around the beautiful Arboretum. This was followed by a vigorous dynamic warm up, and then all the hard work and fun began.
The one and a half hour session was packed full of hard work and lots and lots of fun. It started with a tough drill testing the technical level of the player’s forehands; this was followed by a dynamic motor skills drill, testing footwork and balance. The players then went back to test more tennis skills, but now the backhand side, the players were then tested again by the rigorous agility drills.
All the parents were then asked to join in the games, it was fantastic to hear the Tennis in the Park courts filled with laughter and fun, usually the parents are always watching so it was a great opportunity for everyone to be together on the court, the young players absolutely loved it. Games like Knock Off, Across The River and Messy Beds were enjoyed by all.
The session finished with a magical Tennis in the Parks treasure hunt, parents, coaches and all the players walked to the wooded area where 29 presents were hidden by the Tennis in the Park coaches, all the players had a great time rushing around with excitement finding presents hidden high and low.
A great time was had by all, a fantastic way to start 2013, the parks is a great environment to play tennis and have lots of fun, this first event of 2013 was an amazing success, we all look forward to the rest of the year and all the tennis fun that will be experienced by all that come along to enjoy tennis in the park.
